john and i had such a wonderful time on our little getaway to southern california over a week ago! the only downside was that the weather was not so great, but that really didn't matter. it was beautiful the day we flew in and the day we flew out, but overcast the rest of the time and a little on the chilly side. good thing i threw in a couple of long sleeved shirts :) the day we flew in, we got to go see holly, brett and sweet marymayes durham. it was such a blessing to spend some time with them and that sweet baby girl is about as beautiful as they come. they are wonderful parents!!!
it was so wonderful to just "BE" together with nothing to interrupt us. we ate tons of mexican food (fish tacos) and lots of desserts!! the little inn we stayed at had a wonderful breakfast every morning (which john only got to try once b/c he had to be at the med conference early) and at 4:3opm each afternoon they set out wine, hors d'oeuvres and desserts. they also had homemade cookies in a cookie jar on the reception desk every day. needless to say, all of that did not help our waistlines. we biked around on a tandem bike and explored and also took a whale watching cruise early one evening. it was REALLY cold out on the ocean and we supposedly saw one whale, but i couldn't really tell what it was. i got to sleep a lot and catch up on all the morning tv shows...we had a fireplace in our room so i would wake up, snuggle in our comfy king sized bed with the fire crackling and watch all the "trashy" stuff i wanted! i also almost finished an entire book while we were there. heavenly :) we even got to go see a movie one night. going away for little trips like this is so good for our marriage and our kids...we need the time together and it always refreshes me as a mother, too. i missed my babies and we actually looked at pixs of the girls on our computer on the flight back b/c we couldn't wait to see them!
