caroline's quote of the day

mommy: why did you put your instruments on the chair?
caroline: they're taking a nap. they're tired.
mommy: oh really. how long are they going to nap?
caroline: uhm, about two minutes.

ugandan neighbors are awesome!

i finally got to meet susan, our new neighbor from uganda, today. john helped her, husband raymond and 3 yr old shannon move in 2 weekends ago. they're renting, too, and hoping to find a house sometime in the future. caroline and i visited with susan for a long time today. shannon goes to daycare so susan can go on job interviews. susan and raymond grew up in uganda and both graduated from university there. raymond is a software engineer and susan has experience in the insurance business. they are such sweet people with the most beautiful smiles. i had so much fun talking to her about life in uganda and adjusting to life in america. she's only been in the states for a little over a year, but her english is excellent as they learn it from a young age in uganda. she misses her family and friends and especially the way they live life in uganda. she talked about how you all live close to each other and the kids all play together all day in a common courtyard, totally safe, going in a out of each other's homes. she said they want more children, but it's harder here b/c you have so much help in uganda. basically, all susan did when shannon was born was breastfeed her and then family and/or friends did the rest. i think they've got the right idea and we've got it totally wrong. she said how shannon's personality has changed. she seeks more attention here than in uganda and had to adjust to living life "enclosed". how sad that our children don't know that kind of life? we have to think of a million activities to keep them "entertained". anyway, she was so open and warm and blessed my heart. hopefully, we'll get to hang out with them alot! i think shannon and caroline will love playing together.....

daddy: i don't know, how old is mommy?
caroline: thirty minutes

pigtails!

guess who can finally wear pigtails? it only took 27 months of growing with only one tiny haircut. sorry, sweet girl, that's momma's fault...side note, we're going to a 20s/30s service tonight at the church we visited last sunday. one person who knows of this church said in a not so positive way "it's very seeker friendly". i pretended to understand and then wondered later to myself why this would be negative. maybe i misunderstood.

we're blogging now!

well, i love our website, but it's too hard to blog on it and john doesn't have time to "teach" me all that comes along with it so i decided to go this route. plus, i've discovered that my favorite blogs to read are all through blogspot.com. i guess i like the format. anyway, this is a way for our family and friends to keep up with us while we're in charleson. it will also be a way of "scrapbooking" for caroline b/c i'm not one of those mommas that loves to use fancy scissors and stickers that cost a fortune to make albums. nothing wrong with it, i'm just not creative and i'm also cheap so i'm going to cheat and blog. so, here we go and hope you enjoy!
